The official UK Representative for Cannes Lions has enlisted DEPT® Creative Director, Jake Welsh as a member of the design jury. Earlier this year, the organisation launched six competitions across design, digital, film, marketing, media and print aiming to find the very best young creative talent. Anyone aged 18-30 and employed in the advertising/marketing industry in the UK was welcomed to work on briefs remotely as part of the challenge.

The juries have deliberated and will soon announce the winners. As we wait in anticipation, Welsh provides these comments: “This year’s competition brief was based on diversity and inclusion initiatives. It was an inspiring process to review each entry; raw, original, and fresh voices created some amazing work on what is an important topic in the creative communication sector. From idea to execution, the quality of the work put forward was astounding.”

Maintaining the global benchmark for creativity, in all its forms, is what Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity is all about. I’m honoured to play a role at the grassroots level; championing the work of young digital artists in the UK. This group has a bright future ahead and the prospect of them going all the way at Cannes is exciting,” Welsh added.

Of the almost 180 young entries, six winning teams of two will be flown to Cannes to compete in the global Young Lions competitions against other young advertising professionals from around the world. Additionally, six highly commended runners-up teams will receive tickets to our annual summit, LEAD, currently scheduled for January 2021.
