It can be uncomfortable to talk about racism. It can also be hard to know where to start. That’s why two HELLO MONDAY/DEPT® team members with children of colour initiated the creation of an interactive book to give parents simple tools to help them empower their kids to be forces for good.
Creating equity for all people
Racism is a topic that needs to be discussed publicly and honestly. It’s not something that can be solved in a small guide, but we’re hoping that it can be a starting place for families to engage in talks about and actions against racism.
How to Talk To White Kids About Racism is a beginners guide to equip white families to start their journey in life towards fighting racism. It enables an active choice to acknowledge biases, and help to create equity for all people, on an individual and institutional level.
Return of the flipbook
To achieve the faux 2.5D flip-book effect, we wrote a small custom parallax WebGL Shader that can take the different pages’ individual elements and displace them in a single draw call.
Many white parents think that if they don’t talk about race or issues of prejudice, their children won’t have any. But the negative stereotypes are part of the air they’re breathing.
